Why Go Ductless?

Now is the best time to switch to a smart home cooling and heating system to ensure that your home is comfortable all year long. Mitsubishi® Ductless HVAC systems are not only energy-efficient, but are also incredibly simple to install and maintain. These incredibly cost-effective units allow you to save money for years to come – and with the experts at Pittsburgh Ductless, you can have your new ductless AC and heater installed and ready to go in no time.

Flexible Installation Options

One of the key benefits of ductless is you’re not tied down to one specific place in your home or business. With various options insofar as indoor air handlers, you can select a wall-mounted unit, a sleek concealed ceiling cassette, or even a floor mounted air handler. No matter which indoor air handler you choose, the ductless system will still provide the same great benefits allowing you to personalize your comfort level.

The wall-mounted units are an excellent choice to retrofit an existing space such as a converted patio or garage where ceiling space may not be an option. The ceiling cassettes are great for renovations of an existing room where you may have more flexibility in the space to accommodate a concealed air handler. The floor-mounted air handlers can work in almost any application be it a renovation, a converted space, or even new construction! Mitsubishi® Ductless Systems allow you the ability to customize your space to your personal comfort preferences.

Decrease Your Heating & Cooling Costs With Ductless

Saving money is always important to homeowners. However, many people often sacrifice their comfort to keep their utility bill low. This is especially problematic when you’re paying to cool and heat rooms that you don’t use, such as the basement or spare rooms. With a Mitsubishi® Ductless Cooling and heating system, each and every room in your home can be maintained at your desired temperature without wasting energy to heat or cool the entire home! By using a ductless heater or ductless air conditioner, these rooms can be turned off or on low when you aren’t using them. With these systems, the temperature can be adjusted to save energy in every area of your home.

Another way many people lose energy in their home is through leaky ductwork. When the warm or cool air is transported through this system, heat transfer will take place. This can be severe if the ducts are excessively leaky or have damage. You may require a tune-up on your heating or cooling system to ensure rooms farther away from the system get sufficient airflow at the temperature you desire. However, with a Mitsubishi® Ductless System, there is no heat transfer or leaky ducts to worry about.

Each area of your home can be fitted with its own unit that connects to the main system, giving you “zoned” temperature control. With this innovative feature, you are able to have specific temperatures in each “zone” without losing excessive energy and money in the process. In addition to these energy savings, ductless systems have an extremely simple installation process, involving only a small three-inch hole and access to electricity. Therefore, there’s no need for costly ductwork along with the mess of demolition and construction work other traditional air conditioners or heating systems would require.

Improved Air Quality for Allergy & Asthma Sufferers

Most homes have a labyrinth of bulky ductwork that routes cool and warm air throughout your home to maintain a certain temperature. During the off-season, when these heating or cooling systems are not being used, your ductwork collects dirt, dust, allergens, and other pesky debris. When you turn the system on, these particulates are blown through the ductwork and spread throughout your home. Unfortunately, these airborne particles can create issues for you and your family, especially those with allergies, asthma, respiratory ailments, and other health issues.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ranks indoor air pollution is one of the top 5 environmental health risks. Generally, outdoor air is less contaminated while indoor air can be stale, polluted with dust, pet dander, and other allergens which affect you and your family’s health. For those with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory ailments poor indoor air quality can immediately impact the quality of life causing undue suffering in your own home.

Improved Air Quality Achieved By Smart Design

Cutdown On Allergens With Ductless Filtration

Ductless AC or ductless heating, also called mini-split systems, eliminate many of these issues. As the name implies, these heating and cooling systems do not rely on ducts to distribute air throughout your home. This eliminates the build-up of allergens and debris that can be blown throughout your home diminishing its air quality. These systems are also more energy-efficient due to their ability to heat or cool an area as needed without wasting air in a leaky duct system. Additionally, these ductless units also allow finer temperature control in each area of your home by way of “zones”, meaning that you can choose to heat or cool only a specific area of your home. Therefore, you don’t have to spend money to heat and cool rooms that aren’t in use.

Environmentally Responsible Heating & Cooling

Another growing area of concern is balancing the need for comfortable living with an increased focus on the environment. Older systems utilized R22 refrigerant, often times referred to by the brand name Freon®. As of 2010 R22 (Freon®) has been phased out of the market and replaced by R410a, a better suited refrigerant sometimes referred to by the brand name Puron®.

The R22 is less energy efficient and causes damage to the ozone layer. R22 is a class of chemical known as hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). This chemical refrigerant is less energy efficient because it absorbs and releases heat in a lesser amount when compared to the far superior R410a. R22 also wreaks havoc on the ozone layer due to releasing greenhouse gasses which includes chlorine atoms. A single chlorine atom can potentially 100,000 ozone molecules. The weaker the ozone the higher potential ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun can penetrate ozone layer and reach the surface of the Earth. When this occurs increased risk of sun burns and even higher risks of skin cancer.

R410a is the preferred refrigerant and has been phased in as R22 is being phased out. The benefits of 410a is the cooling equipment requires higher-quality and longer-lasting parts to protect the cooling and heating systems from overheating. Additionally, R410a has a higher energy efficiency in heat absorption and release than older R22 refrigerant. The ideal goal is to have a refrigerant with an ozone depletion level of 0 which is why the U.S. government recommends to switch all equipment to the updated specification of R410a.

You can rest easy knowing that your Mitsubishi® Ductless System comes standard with R410a refrigerant. Now, with better quality equipment, better cooling performance, and more environmentally stable you don’t have to sacrifice your personal comfort and risk environmental harm. What’s not to love?

Increase Your Home’s Gross Living Area & Market Value

Sunrooms, unused garages, attics, enclosed porches, and other rooms are often not considered for square footage when appraising your home’s market value. Since these areas of your home do not include the necessary heating and cooling required to be considered a “living area”. Generally, the reason these areas do not have the heating and cooling is because the renovation happened after construction. So, adding heating and cooling to these areas normally would require ducts to be constructed and installed which could lead to much higher costs and possibly additional equipment to obtain comfortable temperatures.

Beyond personalizing your home to your needs another added benefit is adding heating and cooling increases your home’s market value by increasing its square footage. Homes with more square footage are often considered more valuable than those with less. Unfortunately, square footage of a home can only be considered for appraisal value when the area can be considered as “gross living area” or GLA. GLA is an area that can be lived in comfortably throughout the year, meaning it must have heat and AC. Fortunately, a ductless air conditioner or heater can provide the heating and cooling needed in these rooms allowing for this square footage to be factored into your GLA. All that is needed to add these systems to your home is an exterior wall where the wires and tubing can be run. Then, our certified technicians will access the electricity and mount the internal unit to your designated room. Overall, these units can provide an easy and less-expensive method for adding more square footage to your home to increase its market value!

Easy to Use Mobile App

With Mitsubishi® ductless AC and heating, you can turn any home into a smart home! You can even manage your ductless system from an app on your mobile phone. This easy-to-use mobile app can be downloaded (Apple’s iOS & Android) to provide a convenient method for controlling the temperature in every room of your home. You can also use this app to monitor the temperatures in the home and adjust the different units to only the rooms that are in use.

Quick & Easy Installation

One of the best features of a ductless system is how quick and easy the installation can be. A ductless system can be installed in as little as 1 day while requiring just a 3” hole to be drilled for connection to the outdoor unit. When compared to traditional ducted furnaces and heat pumps, the amount of time to rip open walls, ceilings, and floors, custom fabrication & installation of ducts, and the required appliances to heat and cool your home – the appeal of ductless heating & cooling is quite clear. You will have less mess, less renovations, better temperature control, and lowered utility costs to cool and heat your home or business.
